Thank you, Culver’s for sponsoring this cheesy post to celebrate National Cheese Curd Day as we overcome Hurricane Irma with a story of hope and gratitude through beautiful memories that include enjoying Cheese Curds after the storm.

Like everyone else living in South and Southwest Florida, we just went through and are recovering from some really tough times after Hurricane Irma swept through our communities. My family and I lost power for two weeks, but we were blessed to find a cozy little hotel in Sanibel to keep ourselves fresh and hopeful while going through one of the worst natural disasters we have faced as a community.

It is hard to believe how much emotional weight things like this can put on families and communities. It is terribly hard to not to miss home if you are staying somewhere else. And even worse to be at home, hating that it doesn’t feel like home anymore. For all that, finding ways to uplift our hearts and tummies is truly important. As you can imagine, nothing feels better than enjoying comfort food together. In this case, our favorite was cheese curds from Culver’s.

I know it sounds cheesy to dedicate a whole post and even a national day to these delicious, cheesy, hot and crunchy chunks of white and yellow Cheddar cheese, breaded and deep-fried for a warm, buttery crunch, but believe me… it was awesome to walk into Culver’s, order them, and enjoy them guilt-free, and most importantly, with gratitude!

This cute and cheesy story will remain one of the good memories built through the magical connection we have with food in difficult times. And for that, I am joining Culver’s in celebrating National Cheese Curd Day this October 15. Not only that! I want to invite you to be part of the celebration by gaining one of the four free coupons for a regular size Cheese Curd that Culver’s has sent me to share with my readers. All you need to do is to leave a message saying why you like or why you would like to try Culver’s Cheese Curds. First come, first serve! I will reply asking your address so I can mail it out to you asap.

I hope you enjoyed this cheesy story, but most importantly, I hope you embrace every moment spent with the ones you love because after the storm comes the calm. And that calm usually comes along with tons of gratitude, with hope to focus more on the people than on the things we have. In times like these, we realize that life is so fragile. When a natural disaster like Irma puts it into perspective, it is time to reflect on the things that really matter. In my case, my most valuable treasures are my children and I am grateful we are safe and ready to go back to normal. Everything else can be rebuilt and I trust it will be with faith, hard work, and compassion.
